The culmination of this frenetic creative process, featuring 25 actors between the ages of 14 and 19,will be presented Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
Each spring (May 17 this year), Plan-B presents an adult version of the creative slam event but Jerry Rapier, producing director, says the difference here is that the playwrights will focus more on creating scripts that showcase the abilities of young actors without as much emphasis on current political or religious topics. “The challenge will be writing material appropriate for and of interest to this age group,” Rapier adds.
More than 75 students from high schools throughout Utah auditioned for Student Slam and 25 were selected. Professional directors, all of whom have either acted or directed for the annual event featuring adults, will guide the actors, Rapier says.
The hope is that one of these ten-minute plays will be developed into a one-act for production in 2008.
Tickets are $12 and can be purchased by calling (801) 355-ARTS or by clicking here.
