Reviews and Highlights:

Jose Gonzalez’s In Our Nature — **Coming here in concert March 22. Buy your tickets at the store.** Much like his first album Veneer, Gonzalez has an intimate, tender sound featuring just his voice and a skillfully played acoustic guitar on his new release. There is more of the same quiet, stark, but also beautiful songs and performances with more political lyrics, more passionate vocals, some more forceful guitar playing, and a general sense of urgency and unease bubbling underneath the prettiness, but one could choose to let the moody songs and melancholy atmosphere relax and soothe the mind. WENDY’S PICK: Don’t miss the amazing cover of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” on this disc. It’s astounding!

Dengue Fever’s Escape From — **Coming here in concert March 25. Buy your tickets at the store.** For its sophomore album, Dengue Fever switches away from a nearly all-covers repertoire to try something bolder: writing originals while still developing its signature rock-music-into-Cambodian-pop-and-back-again approach. The music appeals outside of the genre definitions. Simply, it’s fun, upbeat, introspective, and beautiful.

New Release:

Great Northern’s Sleepy Eepee – **Get a free tote bag with purchase of a Great Northern CD.** This dreamy sounding release is aptly named, with melodic beats and heavy, full sounding drums combined with the vocal harmonies of Rachel Stolte and Solon Bixler mingling in breathy masculinity with feminine soothsaying. I would be lulled to sleep if it weren’t so engaging to listen to this album. Come in and listen to this release from Great Northern that I was unable to resist myself.
