Christopher Blue, owner of Chocolatier Blue, is among three finalists for the best confection in the 2008 Golden Scoop Awards, which celebrate innovation, creativity, and excellence on the part of pastry chefs, chocolatiers and bakers working in the United States.

Blue’s Sous-Vide Rhubarb Caramel Bonbon made the elite list in a competition in which chefs from around the country are invited to submit entries in five award categories.

The competition is sponsored by the French Culinary Institute, Food Arts magazine, PastryScoop.com, E. Guittard, and Grand Marnier.

Winners are to be announced at the end of the month. In addition to being featured on PastryScoop.com and in Food Arts magazine, each winner will also receive a prize of $1,000.

Blue’s presence in Utah has been nothing short of spectacular, at his Alpine location and in his exceptional presence at Tony Caputo’s Market and Deli and at Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago.

Blue also is poised to become the only U.S. chocolatier to use Amedei, the Tuscan chocolate maker widely acknowledged as the world industry leader. Amedei’s Toscano Black 63% recently won the first-place award from the London Academy of Chocolate for the third year in a row. The Golden Bean Award is considered to be the “Oscar” in the chocolate industry.

Blue has been featured twice in this blog here and here.
